Floodwave in a waterglass

The commission's report on how the government dealt with the tsunami seems to be good, it penetrates the subject and tell us who did the mistakes. The Prime Minister has taken the blame and apologised for these mistakes. The government seems to learn from the mistakes made.

With all this, the case could be closed. Instead, the right wing opposition tries to make party politics of this disaster. Speculations are heard on whether they will ask for the government to resign - almost one year after the tsunami! This is surely a floodwave in a waterglass.

In January, we spent weeks discussing the government's failures. The opposition didn't rise the question in parliament on the government's resignation then, and they won't do it now either. They know that most European governments had problems with dealing with a catastrophy of this size, and they know that most voters would see a call for Perssons's resignation now as quite ridiculous.

What the opposition want, is to recall the voters' memories from last winter, when their position in the polls were much better. I can't blame them, as I know that whenever we discuss policy they lose.

Seriously, I don't think the Swedish people want a government that makes mistakes of this magnitude. Göran Persson’s apology is worth nothing when it comes one year after the tsunami. I don’t care if he has learned his lesson from this mistake. I don’t think we should have to wait and see what more lessons Göran Persson has to take. I don’t want to have a student as the prime minister.

We had some similar problems in Norway after the tsunami, and I think Peter G is right. The important thing now is to be able to learn from the mistakes, rather than changing gorvernments.

Being a student myself, i can assure you that this does not mean that I learn from my mistakes. I do, on the other hand appreciate that a prime minister is able to learn from his mistakes. The right way to deal with this terrible dissaster, is to make sure that this doesnt happen next time.

The most appaling thing about this is that the right wing politicians try to score political points on this dissaster..

And the prime minister isn't responsible for the tsunami either. And we don't know if the right wing parties would have handled the tsunami disaster any better either, right?

All the above is just lame arguments.

I guess it won't matter how many mistakes Göran Persson does. The believers will stand behind him anyway. In my opinion no other man has caused so much damage to Sweden as Göran Persson.

This one he brought upon himself. We will be hearing about it forever. This is what he will be remembered by.

What Sweden needs is a second social democratic party, that way people could elect the smarter ones.

Hmmmm.
Sweden already has four social democratic parties... the SAP is the smartest one of the bunch...

At least that is what it looks like from California...

BTW- Read your post on Junilistan. Veldig interresant. What are you guys going to do to distinguish left anti-Europeanism from right anti-Europeanism?
